Choosing The Right Tap For You

There are a wide variety of taps on the market with this in mind you will need to find the right one for you and your kitchen. Deciding on the style of tap and the its added functions.

Taps are available vary in price ranges with different manufactures offering piece of mind for example 50 year guarantee against manufacturer defects, look carefully at the warranty.

Monobloc Taps

The most popular in our studio, this multifunction tap has separate levers for hot and cold, which makes it easy to use. The uses one tap hole ion the worktop or sink. Used in contemporary and traditional style kitchens.

Single Lever Taps

Single lever taps are adjustable from front to back for the hot and cold and the flow is controlled by moving the lever in and out. The lever can be mounted on the side or on top of the tap.

Bridge Taps

A bridge tap is designed with a single spout with two tap holes, one for hot water and one for the cold water. Two levers either side of the spout, normally levers or crosshead handles. Suits traditional style kitchen.

Pillar Taps

Pair of taps using one for the hot water and the other for cold, two tap holes required in the worktop or sink. There are different handles available with this style tap such as levers, crosshead and knobs. These taps are traditionally used with Belfast sinks.

Boiling Water Taps

Instant boiling water taps are the latest craze, it means you do not need to wait for the kettle to boil, you can make a cuppa instantly. There is a tank which fits in the cabinet under the sink or in the plinth area. The water is heated and stored in the unit, the boiling taps can be quite expensive initially but will hopefully pay off in the long run. There are taps with boiling water and normal hot and cold in one tap. Plus boiling hot water taps with all these function plus filter cold water. The lever on the boiling water function normally have a safety feature such as pushing the lever in and twisting for it to operate much like a medicine bottle.

Water Filter Taps

These taps are great for the filter water fans, no longer a need to take space up in the fridge with a jug. This allows you to pour straight from the tap and some even have the ability to be chilled. The filters are normally changed every 3-6 months depending on how often it is used. Grohe has even brought out with carbonated fizzy water as well as the filter water!

Tap Finishes
Once you have chosen the style on to the finishes, with standard finishes as Chrome (shiny) and Brushed Steel (matt), there are some more unusual option in certain taps such as Gold, Aged Brass, Polished Brass, Satin Brass and English Bronze.

Water Pressure
Check the water pressure of to make sure its the right tap for your kitchen, this is measured by the bar. Low pressure bar require 0.3 and below a high pressure requires 1.0 and above. It is worth checking before you buy.
